Hot Air Balloon Symmetry Activity

The bright and colourful patterns of these hot air balloons are perfect for helping to practice matching symmetrical objects.

You Will Need

  • SVG Design 40
  • 2 sheets of A4 (8.3″ x 11.7″) 140gsm (95lb) white cardstock
  • Green StandardGrip Cricut mat
  • Cricut or other cutting machine
  • Brayer
  • Fine point Cricut blade
  • Weeding Tool
  • Scraper Tool
  • Printer
  • Coloured Printer Ink

How To Make Your Hot Air Balloon Symmetry Activity

Upload SVG Design #40 to Cricut Design Space and add to a new canvas.

Select the entire image and ‘Ungroup’ in the Layers Panel.

Select the first group of balloons in the Layers Panel and select ‘Flatten’.

Select the second group of balloons and ‘Flatten’.

Click on the ‘Make’, ‘On Mat’ and ‘Continue’ buttons.

For the first mat, select ‘Send To Printer’.

In the print set up ensure ‘Add Bleed’ is selected.

Affix your cardstock to a green StandardGrip mat with a brayer tool and insert a fine point Cricut blade.

Select ‘Cardstock For Intricate Cuts’ and ‘Default’ pressure in the materials section.

Remove the pieces and repeat for your second mat.

How To Use Your Hot Air Balloon Symmetry Activity

Jumble up your balloon pieces and spread out on a flat surface.

Ask your child to match the balloon pieces that are a mirror image of each other.

When they have finished, jumble the balloons up and start again!
