The beautiful patterns found on butterfly wings lend themselves perfectly to this symmetry activity, which practices the skill of matching two images which mirror each other.
A fundamental early numeracy skill, this is a colourful and playful way of practicing some math, and can be repeated multiple times.
When the skill has been mastered, repurpose these gorgeous butterflies to brighten up a collage or use to decorate a handmade card!

How To Make Your Butterfly Symmetry Math Activity
Upload SVG Design #38 to Cricut Design Space and add to a new canvas.
In the Layers Panel, ‘Ungroup’ the image.
Select the first group of butterflies and click on ‘Flatten’ in the Layers Panel.
Select the second group of butterflies and click ‘Flatten’.
Select ‘Make’, ‘On Mat’ and ‘Continue’. On the Prepare page select ‘Confirm’.
Select ‘Send to Printer’ and on the Print Setup page ensure ‘Add Bleed’ is on.
Print the image onto your A4 white cardstock.
For Base Materials I used ‘Cardstock for Intricate Cuts’ and ‘Default’ pressure.
Attach your cardstock to your mat using a brayer tool and load into the machine using the flashing arrow button. Press the go button.
After the first cut, before unloading your mat, gently peel back a section of your cardstock to ensure that it has cut all of the way through cleanly. If not, press the go button again for a second pass.
Repeat until you are happy with your cut, then unload your mat using the flashing arrow button.
After unloading your mat, flip it over and peel your mat away from the cardstock. Use your scraper tool to remove any excess pieces from your mat.
You are now ready to play your game!
How To Use Your Butterfly Symmetry Math Activity
Jumble up your butterfly pieces and spread them out on a flat surface.
Ask your child to join the two butterfly halves that match each other.
Repeat as many times as desired!
