Number monsters are great way to practice some early years maths skills, and work perfectly as a Halloween activity at this time of year.
Combine the number monster bodies with some googly eyes, arms and jaggy monster teeth, to help preschoolers practice some 1 to 1 number correspondence. In 1 to 1 correspondence, children learn to assign a number to each object and only count that object once. This works best when the child has to physically move each object one at a time whilst counting, allowing them to experience the abstract concept of counting numbers in a physical way.
When they have finished the activity, use the monsters as some DIY Halloween Decor to brighten up a playroom or classroom.

How To Make Your Number Monsters on a Cricut Machine
Download SVG #66 from the freebie library and upload to Cricut Design Space. Select ‘Make’ and ‘On Mat’. Adjust the material size on the ‘Prepare’ page if necessary and then select ‘Continue’.
I used ‘Medium Cardstock’ in material settings and ‘More’ pressure.
Insert your mats and cut your pieces.
How To Use The Number Monsters
Lay out the number monster bodies, arms, teeth, googly eyes and a glue stick.
Ask your child to pick out one of the bodies and tell you what number it is.
Once they have identified the number, ask them to add that number of eyes, teeth and arms to the body.
Repeat for the rest of of the numbers.
Once all of the body parts have been added, extend the activity by giving your child some craft materials to decorate the monsters in whichever way they choose!
